Pictures from my Christmas 2002 roadtrip:
- Lindstrom MN. Note Mimsey in the back
of the car. This is actually the day I left, but I left at about 9:00 at
night. Note also the "Long's Bait Shop" sign in the background. When I
was growing up, Long's Bait Shop was right next door to Shorty's Bicycle
Repair. I always wanted to get a picture of the two stores next to each
other, but about 10-15 years ago, Shorty had a heart attack and died.
- Baldwin WI.
They put me in a one bed hotel room alright, but the room itself was
cavernous. I didn't notice that I had to turn on the heat myself until
I was waking up.
- Milwaukee WI.
This picture, and others like it below, were taken by putting the camera
in lomo mode, i.e., programmed
auto, no flash, and then just whipping the camera up and clicking the
button. I missed the perfect picture here by just a few seconds
-- a woman had stopped her car along the side of the freeway (which was
insane) and was standing on the concrete barricade to get a picture of
Miller Park over the chain link fence (I'm travelling too fast for
you to see it here.) I think it would have been awesome to have gotten a
picture of someone taking a picture of Miller Park like that. :)
- Chicago IL.
- Chicago 2. That's the Sears tower in
the middle background.
- Grand Rapids MI. I like this
picture a lot. (It's an overpass, if you need a hint.)
- Sand Lake MI. This is an 8 second
exposure of snow outside Peggy's house. It's probably green because of
the residual light from the pole barn light. I put it on self timer,
because I didn't want to shake the tripod (you can see the camera shadow),
and then while we were waiting for it to take, this car was driving by. I
turned to Peggy and said "I think I'm going to get a car in my picture."
And I did.
- Sand Lake 2. Mimsey. I tried
several different compositions for this shot -- this is the least painful
result.
- Sand Lake 3. I'm saying "I wonder
when this is going to take a picture." Also, I wasn't sure what to do
with my hands -- does it show?
- Sand Lake 4. And this is
our reflection in my fender a few minutes later.
- Traverse City MI. I'll give a
dollar to the first person who e-mails me what fast food joint I'm at, and
their reasoning.
- Glen Arbor MI. Mom, reading her
mail.
